Captain’s Report – East Lake Golf Club 30/07/2024
The builders assembled 24 hearty golfers on a cold and windy winter’s day to play East Lakes for the first time as a group.
From the start the organization and attention to detail was excellent from the club staff, with the carts lined up and contained score cards and tee times for all players as we took to the course.
The first seven holes ran away from the club to the south, into a strong southerly wind. This was a challenging start for all and made approaching the small greens difficult.
Once across the bridge there were about five holes with sneaky hazards around or through them, more trouble for the unaware golfer.
The final six holes back to the club played easier as the wind was at our back but still far from easy in the conditions.
The scores were understandably low, with the average being a meager 25 points.
Special mention to our senior statesman, Lynn Astley, who turns 89 in August who managed 33 points including 22 on the back nine.
The meal of a curry selection was just right in the warm club house after the game once everyone warmed up.
Our thanks go out to East Lakes for their course presentation and general service which made for a very enjoyable day.
