Captain’s Report – NSW Golf Course 6th Of February 2024
As is our tradition we welcomed the new year with a game at the majestic NSW golf course.
Early rain on the day didn’t dampen the spirits of the 42 master builder golfers who assembled to once again take on this championship course.
The rain had eased by lunch time but the southerly wind was blowing stronger than ever, gusts of over 60 kilometers per hour recorded at Kurnell.
The intrepid group set off for the 1.30 start armed with a pink ball per group to battle the elements.
Over the years we have played NSW in all sorts of weather conditions and this day was as tough as it has ever been.
The pink ball was flying all over the course at the will of the wind with the worst performance (by a quality golfer I might add) was to loose the ball deep in the bush on the very first shot of the day to the experienced group of Barry Morcom and friends to hold onto pinkie for 14 holes and take home the prize of some red wine.
As expected, the scores were low due to the wind with the average being in the low 20s but the consensus in the bar after the game that it was a strangely enjoyable challenge to battle the elements rather than the golf course.
A very enjoyable shower followed by dinner was just what was needed and all enjoyed the first catch-up of 2024.
