Captain’s Report – Ryde Parramatta Golf Club 2nd Nov 2023
After overcoming a booking bungle 24 golfers arrived at the picturesque Ryde Parramatta club on a perfect afternoon for golf. This was our first game since St Michaels in September due to the October Hornibrook tournament held in Geelong Victoria.
Moderate temperatures and light wind were served up by the weather gods for this game and the field was ready to post some good scores given the excellent condition of the course due to the fact that they are in the middle of their club championships.
Many a golfer does not get to experience this hidden gem of a golf course, with a water hazard running through most holes and subtle dog legs into well-guarded and at times smallish greens. The greens were true and quick although still showed signs of the recent spring renovation. A slope rating or 137 meant most players received an extra shot or two on their handicap.
A testament to the challenging course was the best scores coming in around 30 points, with only one visitor, Nigel McKenna collecting 39 points of a 23 handicap.
Even with the low scores most agreed it was a really good track, combined with a beaut meal and attentive staff a fine time was had by all.
Congratulations to the following winners:
