Captain’s Report – The Coast Golf Club 2020
Overcast skies and a moderate northerly breeze greeted the 36 Master Builder Golfers for our annual Christmas game at this great course perched on the cliff tops above Little Bay.
The December game and the competition for the Grandfathers Cup traditionally takes place at Concord Golf club, but they had to cancel our booking due to ‘the virus’. The Coast was very accommodating accepting us at short notice and managed to squeeze us into a busy day on the course.
With the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, The Coast course was in generally good condition and the greens were deceptively quick. The wind, as always, was up just enough to create doubt in shot selection and the greens are generally quite narrow and require accuracy on approach.
Off the white markers, with a 132-slope rating, 25 per cent of our players played to their handicap or better.
Great to see a healthy number of visitors, who all seemed to enjoy the day with several indicating they would like to join our membership.
The staff put on a fantastic meal to cap off another good day and end our golf commitments 2020, a very unusual year.
An overdue and very quick AGM was held, and all committee members were returned to serve the club for the next twelve months, which will be busy with the National Tournament rescheduled in Sydney for October 2021.
