Captain's Report

Captain’s Report – The Lakes

Every golfer enjoys the challenge of playing The Lakes and an assembly of 40 master builder players we up for the mid-winter game.

Great to see a group from Newcastle and several other visitors to increase our numbers to a respectable level.

The skies were grey and threatening accompanied by a solid southerly breeze, meaning warm clothing and jackets were required, although the field remained dry throughout the afternoon.

Off the blue markers and a slope rating of 137 meant an extra shot for most players but the course, as always, had plenty of protection and with the wind, the degree of difficulty was increased. This was reflected in the scores with only one member playing to his handicap.

The game was followed by a catch-up drink in the bar and an excellent buffet dinner.

Special thanks go out to the patron of the St George cancer care centre and top-class comedian, Paul Martel for sharing some wise words with us all about the importance of men’s health and a few of his hilarious golf yarns.

We would also like to thank the staff and management of The Lakes golf club for providing us with an excellent golf course and great club amenities for our game and we look forward to our return in 2018.
