Captain’s Report – The Lakes
With a cold and rainy weekend I was concerned if our Monday game at The Lakes would go ahead. We had half a dozen pull out over the weekend but still ended up with a healthy 33 players which made it difficult to re-organise our paying groups. A warm welcome to our new members and sponsors. We also had several visitors. I hope to see you all on a regular basis.
The shotgun start was organised for 12pm which gave all players the opportunity to get in before dark. All was set for an enjoyable day as the weather appeared to be improving and we all got around the course without getting wet even though it was a little cold towards the end. On the first nine the abundant waste land on the edges of most fairways made wayward shots very costly. Target golf was the order of the day, with only a few water hazards on the front nine and all greens very challenging.
The back nine has had some alteration to the existing course but not as severe as the front nine. I personally think the second nine is one of the great layouts of Sydney golf. Most holes involve skirting around the huge lake and staying in play, with plenty of challenging bunkers and greens along the way, I definitely managed to find a number of water hazards along the way.
As predicted the golf scoring was difficult and only a couple of golfers playing close to their handicap, and the average score being only 25 or 26 points.
Congratulations to the following players:
